GL Courses

I have completed 11 GL courses throughout my undergraduate studies which have given me a global perspective. I have documented two courses that I personally liked, alongside work examples.

PCB4467C
"Marine Reserves"

I took this course in fall 2022 and learned different strategies and concepts methods on biological and sociological methods to design and manage marine protected areas around the globe. Global learning takes part in this course because it trains you to think of social, political, economical, and cultural standards in other countries and how that can impact the design on a marine protected area. For example, if you cut off an area from fishing, it is important to examine the implications it will have on local fishermen in Cuba who need to feed their families versus a developed country such as the United States.

COM 3417 "Communication in Film"

I took this course in the fall of 2018 and it examined the unique relationship between communication and film from the 1920's (the era of silent film) through today. Personally, I liked how this class not only was a arts course where I was able to step away from Biology and International Relations related content and simultaneously learn something new about film and delve deeper into the meanings of shots, lighting, and  history of movies. I was exposed to many films that came from Europe in this class and their correlation with time periods and how it affected the production and composition of the film, giving different perspectives and beliefs through moving pictures. Examining European film versus American film was quite beautiful to see how advanced in filming they were or in their ideologies.
